Arizona Unit 8 is known for a large number of Elk. It is rare that a early morning or late evening drive through the back roads of this unit doesn't produce at least one Elk sighting. Of course, once hunting season starts, the Elk learn very quickly not to hang out too close to the well traveled roads.
Bulls especially will not tolerate too much human activity. Therefore it is wise to seek some out of the way areas that still offer the Elk food, water, and cover.
There are a ample number of roads in Unit 8 that can get you close to these hidden pockets of Elk habitat, but you will have to do some walking away from the road to get into the best areas, especially after opening day.
