Arizona Unit 7 West is often overlooked as a quality Elk unit. Every year hunters that are willing to work hard and do their pre-hunt scouting take home trophy Elk out of this unit. The unit habitat type varies greatly. From thick Ponderosa forest on the south side to near desert like plains on the north side. All of these areas hold Elk to some degree. If there is a decent amount of snow, the Elk will move to the lower elevations, which means north or west.
In unit 7 west, the area north of Kendrick Peak holds a good population of Elk at all times. It is relatively easy living here for the Elk with abundant water and green meadows and the Elk are epecially attracted to burned areas. There are also plenty of thick forest and steep hills for them to escape to should they be pressured by hunters, hikers, campers, etc.
